What is Dental Filling?

A dental filling is a dental procedure to restore a small portion of the tooth that is damaged or decayed. If a large portion of the tooth is damaged or the decay has reached the nerve of your tooth, a dental crown or root canal therapy may be the best option to restore your tooth.

When your Hornsby dentist do dental fillings in Hornsby, they will need to remove the decayed part of the tooth, cleans it, then fills out and close off the space of your teeth.

This way it prevents the tooth from damaging or decaying even further since the bacteria and food particles can no longer enter the hole or space on your teeth.

Which dental fillings are best for you?

There is no such thing as the best filling or the safest dental fillings for someone. The types of filling to use vary from a person’s preference and how much money you are willing to spend to restore your teeth. Generally, there are five types of dental fillings that you can choose from to achieve your desired look.

Amalgam – they are silver fillings that have been used for so long to fill a tooth. It is the least expensive and very durable type of fillings that can last for years.Which Dental Fillings Are Best?

Composite Resin – is the most popular type of filling since it matches the colour of your teeth. They may be the most aesthetically pleasing however they are less durable then amalgam.

Ceramic Fillings – it is an expensive type of filling that is very durable and very visually pleasing because it matches the shade of your natural tooth. These are also resistant to stain or discolouration since it is made out of porcelain.

Glass Ionomers – this is typically used for children that still have baby teeth. This filling can release fluoride to protect the tooth from further decaying.

Gold Fillings – not the most commonly used filling but it is considered the best filling material since it is very durable and can last up to 15 to 20 years. However, since the material is made out of gold it is also by far the most expensive option and it requires more visit because the filling is made to order in a laboratory.
