Dental Bridges are a type of dental restoration that is designed to replace a missing tooth, when dental implants or dentures are not suitable. It utilises the adjacent teeth as abutments to provide support of a pontic (bridge) to fill in the missing tooth/teeth space.
It offers some distinctive advantages:
- It replaces a missing tooth/teeth without surgery as required in a dental implant, as well as a significantly shorter treatment time.
- Is a “fixed” restoration unlike that of a removable partial denture.
- It is less costly than a dental implant.
- It has long-term studies to support its use in dentistry.
Unfortunately, because it does require support from adjacent teeth, often dentists will have to cut into them to prepare space for ceramic thickness, but with modern high strength materials, less cutting is required comparing to older materials.
At Hornsby Dental, we believe that dentistry should not be over-priced, and that dentistry fee should be transparent. A printed treatment plan will be provided to you with the cost of each of the steps involved. We use only local suppliers and believe in keeping strict quality control.
A dental bridge is a fixed option to restore a missing tooth. Similar to a removable partial denture (plates), it utilises the adjacent teeth as abutments. The difference is, the bridge is cemented in and does not need to be removed.
It involves reduction of the abutment teeth with a crown preparation to accommodate for the high strength framework material and veneering ceramic. The disadvantage of this option is the necessity to prepare the abutment teeth, however it is an alternative option to replace a missing tooth when surgical implant or removable dentures are not suitable.
Please contact us on 8090 1100 for more information if you are unsure whether to decide between dental bridges vs implants. Our trusted team of dentists will be able to guide you in the right direction.
The advanced technology we have at Hornsby Dental allows us to make Dental Crowns in only one visit. Below are the 3 key steps:
CEREC with blue-cam, from Sirona, is a state-of-the-art, high definition acquisition that allows dentist to provide single-visit ceramic crowns and ceramic restorations. It utilises CAD-CAM (computer-aided-design, computer-aided-manufacturing) technology to scan a tooth, design its restoration, and mill it with a high-precision milling machine. The technology is now widely used in dental labs to produce precision-fit, aesthetic dental restorations. We have acquired one such machine to make the dental restoration right in-front-of-you!
Cerec AC is the newest generation of CAD-CAM dentistry chair-side acquisition unit from Sirona. It offers high precision scan with accuracy in the microns!
If you are having a crown done, why wouldn’t you want something that you can have a say in? Our crowns are designed by both you and your dentist, and milled from high-strength dental ceramics traditionally only made available to dental technicians.
Single-visit crown and ceramic restoration means that you will not have to live with temporary crowns that pop off, or 2 shots of needle. It is literally ‘done and done’ right in front of you. This technology can also be used for cosmetic dental veneers.
