Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are a versatile and highly effective solution for restoring damaged or worn-down teeth. At Hornsby Dental, we offer top-quality dental crown procedures using the latest CAD/CAM technology to ensure that you receive the best possible results in terms of both aesthetics and durability. Whether you’re dealing with a broken tooth, decay, or general wear and tear, a dental crown can provide the protection and restoration needed to maintain your oral health and smile.
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a cap that covers a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns are typically used to protect a tooth that is cracked, severely decayed, or after a root canal procedure to prevent further damage. Crowns can also be used to improve the appearance of a tooth that may be discoloured or misshapen.
The primary function of a dental crown is to provide strength and support to a compromised tooth, allowing it to withstand the normal forces of chewing and biting. Crowns are designed to be durable and long-lasting, providing protection for the tooth beneath.
Why Do You Need a Dental Crown?
Decay:
Extensive decay can weaken a tooth and cause it to fracture.
Cracks or Fractures:
Teeth can develop cracks or fractures, often caused by biting hard foods or trauma.
Worn Enamel:
As we age, tooth enamel naturally wears down, which can expose the underlying dentin and leave the tooth vulnerable to damage.
Root Canal Therapy:
After a root canal procedure, a crown is often recommended to protect the tooth and restore its strength.
Aesthetic Improvements:
Crowns can be used to enhance the appearance of teeth that are misshapen, discoloured, or chipped.

Porcelain Dental Crowns:
Aesthetic and Durable Restoration
Porcelain crowns are one of the most popular options for patients seeking a high-quality, aesthetic restoration. Porcelain dental crowns are crafted to provide both functional and aesthetic benefits, making them ideal for patients looking to restore a damaged or decayed tooth while maintaining a natural-looking appearance.
At Hornsby Dental, our porcelain crowns are hand-crafted by master ceramists with over 15 years of experience. These ceramists work closely with our dentists to ensure that every porcelain crown is designed to fit seamlessly into your smile, restoring both function and beauty.
The Process of Creating Porcelain Crowns
Improved Looks & Natural Appearance
Our Implants are designed to blend seamlessly with your existing teeth. We match the colour and shape to ensure a natural look; boosting your confidence and allowing you to communicate effortlessly – especially if teeth are missing in the front. They are designed to feel like natural teeth as they are fused with the jawbone.
Initial Consultation and Crown Design:
After your initial consultation with one of our senior cosmetic dentists, an impression and digital scan are processed to start designing your porcelain dental crown. The crown is created based on the exact shape and size of your tooth, ensuring a comfortable fit and natural appearance.
Temporary Crown Placement:
A temporary crown will be placed to protect the tooth while the permanent porcelain crown is being made.
Final Placement:
At your second appointment, your dentist will remove the temporary crown and place the permanent porcelain crown. We will ensure that the crown fits properly and make any necessary adjustments to the size, shape, or colour to ensure a perfect result.
