Spark is a clear aligner system made by Ormco, an orthodontic company based in the United States. It straightens teeth with a sequence of removable trays, much like Invisalign. Hornsby Dental offers Spark alongside Invisalign and Angel Aligner.
Spark is only recommended after we have checked your teeth, gums and bite. If another aligner system, fixed braces or a specialist referral would suit you better, we will tell you.
Spark trays are made from TruGEN, a material Ormco says is designed for clarity and stain resistance. Ormco also says the trays have polished, scalloped edges for comfort. How trays feel varies from person to person.
Your dentist plans your treatment in Ormco’s Approver software, which allows attachments, cut-outs and bite ramps where needed. Spark trays are not invisible and can be noticed at close range.
Both systems use custom trays, digital planning and staged tray changes. They differ in manufacturer, tray material and planning software.

Angel Aligner, made by Angelalign Technology, uses a material called masterControl S and is planned on iOrtho software. It treats a similar range of cases, subject to assessment. See our Angel aligners page.
Spark may suit mild to moderate crowding or spacing, some bite concerns, or teeth that have shifted since earlier treatment, provided you can wear the trays consistently.
Ormco advises treating active gum disease first. More complex jaw or bite problems may be better suited to braces or a specialist. Our orthodontics page explains those options.
Our current price guide estimates Spark treatment at $3,700 to $8,490, $500 less than our Invisalign estimate of $4,200 to $8,990. Your fee depends on the amount of movement needed, the number of aligners and whether refinements are needed.
Your first Spark consultation is complimentary. Interest-free payment plans are available through external providers, subject to approval.
Spark carries the same risks as other aligner treatment: soreness with new trays, temporary speech changes, gum irritation, decay if hygiene slips, root shortening and movements that are not fully achieved. Teeth can move back without retainers. Read about treatment risks, recovery and alternatives.
