Indications for crowns

Some of the possible indications for the placement of a crown on a tooth are for cracked teeth, severely broken down teeth through decay or injury, teeth with very large fillings, those that have had root canal treatment, for support of a bridge as well or to cover internally stained teeth or teeth that are poorly shaped.

Traditionally, crowns have been made from a variety of materials ranging from full metal crowns, porcelain veneered crowns on a metal underlay and most recently crowns have been made from all ceramic. Each type of crown are indicated in different situations however, ceramic crowns have become more popular in recent time due to their superior aesthetic qualities and outstanding durability.
